Why Codice?

We have arrived in Netunno. We were hoping for cooler weather... After all I have a new sweater and that is a whole other story! It has rained... No, rain is not the right word, stormed that's the word I was looking for. There has been lightening, thunder and downpours. But at least it's not hot! The summer Roman crowds have left and so we pretty much have the town to our selves.

Jim went today with his Italian passport in hand and applied for his codice fiscale. A sort of Italian social security number. Total government a work... Take a number and wait in the " sala di attesa". They call the number "where is your form? What no form? Get a form and take a new number" Go to the first desk for the form .. " oh first you need a copy of your passport... Go across the street to the vodafone store and get a copy then come back" Copy procured we return.. "Why exactly did you want a codice?" Explain and finally get the requisite form, complete it, get a new number and wait. Finally our number is called and we return to the first room..."why is it you want a codice? Are you American"...duh! "Not sure this is the right form let me go and check..." Long and short of it, in ten short days Jim will have his codice...why was it that he wanted that?

Tonight we went for pizza at Pizzeria Vesuvio; a small family owned place. They were so sweet and accommodating. It was really fun. It turns out they are from the town of Grangiano where Jim's grandmother was from, practically family! We finally left after homemade limoncello and a bag full of fresh baked bread. Only in Italy!
